Some biographical info from Joe's Wikipedia page to start things off:

D'Amato was familiar to the environment of cinema through his father who worked as an electrician at Cinecittà. He began his career as an operator, often working for Demofilo Fidani. His technical ability made him valuable on low-budget movies. He directed his first movie, a spaghetti western called Scansati… a Trinità arriva Eldorado, in 1972. He used a variety of aliases before settling in 1975 for Joe D'Amato, proposed by producer Ermanno Donati to resemble Italian American director names like Martin Scorsese and Brian De Palma, which became his better-known pseudonym. His earlier films included westerns, thrillers, and softcore erotic movies.

D'Amato's somewhat unscrupulous methods (he often stole stock shots from other films and inserted them into his own as part of the narrative), the shocking content of some of his movies (one of his acclaimed earlier films, Emanuelle e Françoise le sorelline was an erotic thriller fantastique with a cannibalistic dinner scene) and his own penchant for creating publicity around himself (Antropophagus, features a monstrous cannibal eating a - fake - human fetus, Emanuelle in America contains scenes from fake snuff films that were made to look authentic) resulted in D'Amato's fame as an exploitative director. He worked under innumerable aliases during his lifetime, sometimes even selling scripts using a female name. Because of his aliases, it is believed that there are still “undiscovered” D'Amato films, that is, films in circulation that he wrote or directed under an unrecognized pseudonym. It is widely believed that only a portion of his pornographic films have been identified as being his work.

Those who knew D'Amato have said in interviews that, though he was basically a nice guy who enjoyed filmmaking, he was more concerned with making money than any kind of merit his films might have had. His entire career can perhaps best be summed up in a line from his film Emanuelle's Revenge, spoken by a film producer playing a facsimile of D'Amato: “We're not making artsy-farty crap for intellectual faggots. We're out to make money!” This is particularly evidenced by the many “knockoff” films he made…

And now some technical stuff about the wiki…

If you see a film listed which has [NS] listed in the Notes field, it means the film has no English audio track and no English subs. If you can find an English version, or even make custom fansubs, your work will surely be appreciated (not to mention rewarded ).

And of course if you have some D'Amato film(s) that aren't yet here, feel free to upload them!

If, however, the films have any hardcore scenes (scenes where shots of penetration are shown on the screen), please get them approved first in the Customs & Excise area of the forums, explaining why the film is more than just porn (ie. that it has a plot and other 'redeeming' qualities).

Feel free to use both the Discussion area at the bottom of this wiki, and the relevant forum post to talk about the fan page or D'Amato in general.

Titles that have a * next to them are available on other trackers, but not on CG (with their links pointing to their respective off-site torrent locations).

The *'ed titles have neither been added to the 'uploaded' count nor subtracted them from the total count, they're just useful references for you to locate the D'Amato titles that are either unsafe for CG, or simply haven't been uploaded here yet.

So if you have a hardcore D'Amato to upload and don't think that it'll get safed (or don't want to go through the hassle of getting it safed), upload it to TPB , T3 , or any other tracker, and then update the wiki with the link to the off-site torrent, being sure to place a * by the film's number.

What people should now do (that is if the title is a hardcore flick) is make a case for the *'ed film in the Customs forum. If the film is safed, then the upload will effect the uploaded/remaining counts as normal. If it is unsafed, then the title will be omitted from the official completion count (though not from the wiki list, rather just put brackets around the title to mark its omission), and thus the Total Films/Remaining counts will be downgraded appropriately. And of course if the off-site link either isn't a hardcore title or you have a non-hardcore version of that title, then you can upload it right away and replace the off-site link with the CG link here on the wiki.

D'Amato did the camerawork in nearly all if not all the movies he directed. The following list comprises all movies in which Joe D'Amato was (at least partly) chief cinematographer, but which were directed by people other than himself.
