Lorre – The Lost One: The title of his only own movie sums up his life. After a good start in the late Weimar Republic (Germany before the Third Reich) with lots of creative and artsy theater work, ultimately leading to his most famous role in “M”, he had to flee from the nazis and ended up as a „star“ in Hollywood. But he just had to play what he was famous for: The outcast, the foreign guy, the strange one, repeating over and over again the same type of character. His wonderful acting skills where ever present but not often necessary. So his star slowly sank down to playing the fat old clown on television. When he died on 23 March 1964, there was little left of the grand actor he once was.

Back in my childhood I remember being fascinated with Lorres performances – although not much of his work was shown on german television, just the „big“ movies. But the impression he made lasted until today and the internet and CG give me the possibility to live my obsession and collect the rare projects of him.
