This is very much a work in progress. The adding and organising of films is going to take a while and will change regularly. As yet, I'm not entirely sure how to structure the list, so what you see probably won't be final.

Also, several of the films might be under the wrong categories: there's so little information about some of them that I've had to guess a bit.

Cinema under Franco in Spain was notoriously tightly censored. This forced most Spanish directors who wanted to do anything even mildly controversial out of the country. This affected everyone, from subversive arty types (Buñuel and Dalí's Un Chien Andalou) to the more recognisable CG-types: Jorge Grau (of Living Dead In Manchester Morgue fame) and a certain Mr Jess Franco are both examples of Spanish directors who had to leave their country to direct.

With the death of Franco though, things changed. In a movement of on-screen sex, drugs and violence, new and returning directors revelled in their new freedoms.

With the new generation of film-makers came a rebellious attitude; films upped the violence and sleaze quote suddenly. The church was no longer in charge and this meant worse language, less clothes and less morals.

Many of these films were churned out very fast, by new directors for very little money. As a result, a vast number were complete crap and still more are lost, vanished or missing.

So in summary: rare violent sleaze. That sounds like CG material to me!

There are a lot of films that were made in Spain. This selection is limiting itself to the years 1973-1983 (with exceptions). Before that was the era of censorship, after that we're stretching the Post Franco connection somewhat.

That's still hundreds of films. So I'm mostly focussing on crime, violence, gangs etc. And anything with a good name. If (once I've got round to it) you know of a particularly good film that really should be added, please don't think I've deliberately chosen to ignore it. I've probably just never heard of it. Make a case for it and we'll add it in.

Also, Jess Franco and Spaghetti Westerns have been ignored. Westerns were pretty much out of favour by 1973 anyway and, seeing as both have their own projects, including them seemed unnecessary.
