Site Information

So... what IS this place, then?

The hands of the Internets have guided you to our sorrowful little taverna of underappreciated (for reasons ironic or otherwise) cinema. If you're one of those people who finds a re-run of “American Ninja 3” on TV and can't turn it off, or who walks past a Chuck Norris VHS at a thrift store and is somehow compelled to buy it, then this is the place for you.

Head Honcho I hear he's a handsome guy <3

Don't PM staff members unless it's absolutely necessary. You're far more likely to get a response by using the helpdesk. If you must PM a staff member then the lower orders are far more likely to answer y our question; the admins need only be bothered if you've broken the site somehow or have a time-critical bug report.

Rank? Credits? What do these do?

Your Rank is determined by the amount of activity you have put in on site. Without giving away the exact formula - you gain rank for uploading torrents, getting lots of snatches on uploads, posting in the forums, filling requests, uploading, downloading and donating.

Credits are derived from your total rank and can be spent on the Credits page. You may also gain credits (but not rank) for seeding torrents, gambling and receiving cigars. Spending credits will not affect your rank, and you may find you have more credits than rank.

Why hasn't my rank just increased?

Rank and credits are only updated every 9 hours. You'll have to be patient. Think like when you were 7 and it was Christmas Eve and you had to wait to get your Superman jumpsuit.

What do I get for donating, and what am I paying for?

Donations fund the webserver. If you donate more than £10 you will be immune from automatic demotion and account deletion. If you are one of the top donors you will be automatically promoted to VIP.
All donors will additionally receive 12 credits per £1 donated, and get a nifty little star by their names.

Is there any other way I can help out?

The best way to find out what needs doing is to get yourself on IRC and listen to the members (and staff members) complaining at brannon about various things which are broken. If you're talented and think you can help out, or if you can design things for us, then we always want more people like you online.

If you're after a staff position, it'll be a prerequisite that you're already well-integrated into the community and IRC channel, no matter how talented you are; we need people who are going to still be here tomorrow. If we like you and you have something to offer us, don't be shy about letting us know, but bear in mind constantly asking for something isn't usually the best way of going about getting it (or of ensuring we continue to like you).

Can I upload your torrents to other trackers?

The files you download are your own to do with as you please; if you want to make a new torrent and upload our movies to another tracker, all we ask is that you keep the -CG tag and nfo intact if it's an internal rip, and don't forget to mention where you found it. However, do not share torrent files you downloaded here because they contain your personal passkey, which could enable someone to compromise your account.

If you're a high enough class you will see an “External Torrent” link to download a torrent which does not contain your passkey and is safe to upload elsewhere; however, these torrents won't work, they will simply generate an error telling the user to signup. While it may be useless as a method of file distribution, it does make for good free advertising :]

What should I be uploading?

If you have movies or other content which fits the site, then by all means go ahead and upload it. However, if the moderators disagree with you on whether it should be here, it may be deleted. If you want to ensure your upload is safe, make a thread in the Customs & Excise forum.

Since most of the material on CG is pretty rare, don't be surprised if not many people are interested in the torrent at first, especially if you don't put much effort into describing what you've uploaded. If you give a verbose description and supply good pictures or a Youtube video, it hugely increases the chances that people will want to download it.

Can I get your source code?

See TBDev for the source and modifications you'll need to get a tracker like ours up and running.
