Creating and Seeding a Torrent Using uTorrent

This guide was copied from the www.underground-gamer.com Wiki, so all credit goes to the original writer, Excavator, and everyone who edited it. I made a few changes so the guide reflects Cinemageddon more - The information is general, and will work on any private tracker, but pictures and links are for Cinemageddon.

Creating a Torrent

In the program go to File » Create New Torrent (or you can just hit Ctrl+N).

Now choose the file or directory you want to upload by pressing the appropriate button (1). An alternative way to add files is to drag the folder or file onto the “Create torrent” dialog.

Next, enter the filenames of the files you wish to skip in the Skip Files box (2).

Each entry is separated by a vertical pipe (|), the asterisk (*) is used for matching multiple characters (or none at all), and ? is used to match single characters. For example, to exclude all ”.txt” and all file types beginning with “mp” and having a variable third character you would write: “*.txt|*.mp?”. Likewise, to skip all files with the word “torrent” in them you would write: *torrent*

After that enter the tracker's announce URL (The announce URL here is: http://cinemageddon.org:80/announce.php, and can be found on the Upload Page.) into the trackers list (3) and check the Private torrent option (4). Then press the “Create and save as” button (5) and enter an appropriate filename in the save file dialog.

For example, to create a torrent for all files in “F:\movies\Friday the 13th Complete Collection” except for the types in the above example, you should end up with this:

Now proceed to the Upload page.

Seeding Your Uploaded Torrent

After you've uploaded your movie you must begin to seed it. To do this you must delete the torrent file from uTorrent and download the server copy. If you don't know what that means or you see an “invalid passkey” message when you are trying to seed, then you should read this section:

When you upload your torrent to Cinemageddon via the upload page, the server adds a “passkey” to your uploaded torrent (like a password), so that the server knows the torrent file has approval to use to the Cinemageddon tracker. However this passkey is not on the local copy of the torrent (on your computer), so you need to delete your original local torrent file, and download the copy that you just uploaded:

* [1] Delete your local torrent file (the one you just created and uploaded), but make sure you delete only the torrent file, NOT the video file(s).

* [2] Download the copy of your torrent file from the Cinemageddon server. The torrent page is probably still open in your web browser since you just uploaded it.

* [3] In uTorrent, go to the File menu and select “Add Torrent”, then browse to the torrent that you just downloaded in step [2]. In the “Save as” box, make sure this matches the same directory that your video file is already in. Matching the directory will allow uTorrent to notice that the video file already exists there, and uTorrent will check the data and begin seeding without trying to download an extra copy of the movie.
