Description
Here comes one of the rarest entries in the El Santo series (this one seemed to be vanished for decades). It was supposedly filmed in color but this B&W copy is the only one available around. Thanks to the original ripper!
Sources are VERY contradictory about this obscurity. Spanish reference books indicate that this was made in 1971 and released in Spain in that same year, under the title “Misión secreta en el Caribe”. Oficial Spanish records say the authorization date for release in Spain was 17 July 1971. running date: 77 minutes; Production companies: TUSI S.A and Cin. Fermont; Director: Enrique Eguiluz (!) Screenplay: Manuel Bengoa; Photography: Juan Srinach; Music: José Espeita.
…But this was a Mexican-Spanish co-production shot in the Caribbean, and Mexican reference books show that this film was produced in 1974 and released in 1976. To complicate things a liitle more, scenes of Guillermo Gálvez from”Perla” also appear in the non-Santo “Campeones del ring” , which was released in Mexico in 1972, although he is given a new character name. “Campeones” also uses a lot of footage from another Santo rare movie “Santo frente a la muerte”.
Embarrased?. OK Let's have a look by ourselves and see what the hell is going with this…..
Running time: 85' 13”
In Spanish, subtitles available.
There is a detailed plot description and review in English here: http://terpconnect.umd.edu/~dwilt/perla.htm
Enjoy!
