| Jess (Jesus) Franco’s legendary reputation for the over-use of the zoom button on his jerky camera stems mainly from this epileptically lensed Euro-nudey vampire/art mystery flick. It’s nuts. Much of it is out of focus, probably shot without sound or plot and it ended up overdubbed into many languages which led to many different version surfacing in many different countries with varying degrees of hardcore porn/sex/blood and nudity and released under such great titles as ErotiKill, Les Avaleuses, Female Vampire and bizarrely Jacula. This restored print is credited to P. Johnson, but it’s classic Franco. How do I know? He’s in it! (as Dr Johnson) alongside his one time wife and sex beast regular Lina Romay. She’s a vampire in the nude. ‘Cept for boots, belt and cape, she’s bollock naked, rampaging around, sucking blood ‘n’ semen from gawky victims that orgasm and take ages to die. Expect the camera to deep zoom into eyes, arses, lesbians, wildlife, breasts, Jack Taylor, Jack Taylor gurning his way through a blow-job, belly skin, sunsets but mostly Romay’s exposed and ample Amazonian bush.
