| “Oil And Money Are An Explosive Mix” in this Eddie Griffin homage to Under Siege. To get an idea about what this movie is like think Under Siege but on an Oil Rig instead of a Navy Battleship, Eddie Griffin instead of Steven Seagal, and Vinnie Jones instead of Tommy Lee Jones - now you've pretty much got the idea. Eddie Griffin plays Lamont Dixon: a firefighter-turned-tugboat-captain (who may have been a Navy Seal at some point), who has to stop Michael Kitteridge (Vinnie Jones) from detonating an EMP over the United States. Luckily, Dixon is not alone; one of Kitteridge's own crew is working for the FBI. Unfortunately, he is not an agent, but a cowardly computer expert (and comic relief) working for the FBI in exchange for a lenient sentence, played very well by Breckin Meyer. This is by no means a big-budget action/thriller, nor is it a suspenseful drama or an uproarious comedy. What it is is a very entertaining, if not cliche-filled, action movie that mixes Die Hard with Under Siege. I can think of worse ways to spend an hour and a half… | |
